Tuesday's (4/19/2011) issue of The Sun had an interesting article about the yearly disposal of leavened bread or chametz which is banned during Passover. At the Pimlico Race Course parking lot, large metal drums have been used as fire pits since 1982 so that the gathering of many of Baltimore's Jews can conveniently and safely burn various quantities of cereal, toast etc. in preparation for Passover. This activity has no doubt prevented many injuries and fires.
Has anyone calculated the green footprint of this world-wide activity? (Just wondering.) Perhaps more importantly, and as my mother used to say, "There are people starving in China. Eat your food."
