Every year for the past 20 or so, my brother and sister-in-law have assembled a group of volunteers, solicited funding, purchased gifts and food and thereby provided Christmas greetings to a growing number of families in and around Baltimore. Under the foundation name of Santa's Helpers Anonymous, (click on the title above for more information) their volunteers will deliver a complete Christmas dinner including a cooked turkey and all of the trimmings plus a bundle of children's gifts as well as blankets to 803 needy families selected by various other organizations.
In the picture below you can see the staging area. At 8:30 am on Christmas Eve, these well marked boxes will be shuttled into roughly 200 vehicles and taken to the expecting families. By 12:00 noon, if all goes well, everything will be delivered and the elves (the drivers) will be on their way home. Volunteers and donations are always needed. As few as two hours can help dramatically in this undertaking. Volunteers are needed to sort and wrap gifts, to disseminate the food stocks, move bags, sort boxes and bags and, of course, deliver the gifts. Most frequently, delivery is accomplished by families and offers the opportunity for children to witness the true meaning of Christmas
