The OIL WELL

Would someone please explain to me why we have plugged up a perfectly good, productive oil well? I fully recognize the extreme damage that has been caused by the mess but it takes time and money to find and drill these things. Are we going to close down all of the Gulf of Mexico wells? If not, why not continue with this one. Just a thought.
