Retirement - Me?

Given the economic times and various pressures on my "baby boom" generation, I am being pressured (I mean given the opportunity, sorry.) to take advantage of the current retirement system rather than the about to be adopted, future system. (Unfortunately, this says more about the future of my colleagues than me.) Nevertheless, the major retirement benefit to which I am entitled after almost 22 years at the college will be curtailed dramatically in the next fiscal year. This has significant impact upon what I will be receiving in the way of health benefits. So, between now and March 2010 I will need to make some important decisions.

Being a Working dog, I found the cartoon in yesterday's (11/25/09) Sun right on target.

It also reminded me of the Walmart joke.

It seems that the manager of the local Walmart was a little upset with the occasional lateness of one of his head greeters. The retired fellow was doing a great job and all of the customers responded well to his smiling face and pleasantries. So, the manager decided to have a little talk with him. He approached the greeter with the following simple question: "Bill, before you retired, what did people say when walked in late?" Bill replied "'Good morning' Admiral."

Keep smiling.
